Blogging

Writing a blog it had been more difficult than I expected to. I always had a problem expressing what I feel in words; I can’t find the correct words to say what I want to say, and trying to express myself in other language… I must say that it was difficult. I felt frustrated when I can’t find the right words, but still I tried to do my best.

However, write the blog really help me to learn this idiom, and I always thought that the best method to learn an idiom is confronting it. I enjoyed reading other blogs because I found that I have a lot of thing in common with my classmates, so I left comments on their blogs to let them know. I’m shy so I don’t think I could get closer to them and say “Hi! I left you a comment in your blog about the movie that you talk about”, but at least I know that exists someone here who likes good movies.

I’m pretty sure there aren’t negative aspects about this exercise, what is more, it had been an opportunity to use the English to express our thoughts. I would like to continue writing in this blog or in another platform with the purpose of learn more about the idiom.

I will give you an advice: you should keep practicing too!

One of my hobbies

Well, I suppose my hobby would be drawing. I can´t think in anything else really, I stopped doing many things because college consume so much of my time. Anyway, I like to draw; I try to do it in every single free time I have. 

Like everyone, I draw since I was a child. My mother and grandma considered that the both of us, my sister and I, do it well so they cheered us to improve. I thing that’s one of the reasons because I still do it and don´t leave it like others activities I start in my life, like basketball or piano.

Is something that relaxes me a lot, but sometimes is stressful because the result is not what I was searching for, but more frequently is the only thing that can calm me from the exterior world. Today I draw more in digital, with the Wacom in my computer, but before my mom gave it to me I do it in the Samsung tablet -that she gave me because I always wanted to have one-. I still have some croquettes and notebooks in what I put some draw and another, but for me now is harder to draw that way because I can not zoom or type ctrl+z.

Santiago

I spent all of my life living in Santiago but I don’t appreciate it too much. In spite of that, I could say that I like the numerous of places that you can visit when you are bored. I really like to go out for a walk in Parque Bicentenario with my friends.

I don’t like the people that live here, they seem so stressed and serious. Most people not even say “hello” when they look at each other. It feels so lonely.

People needs to change if you want to make the city where they live a better place. We need to be more conscious about what happens beyond our square meter. We need to say “hello” to street cleaner, say “thank you” when someone hold the door to let you pass in, and give a little smile to someone to make your own day better.

First tip I would give to a visitor is that doesn’t have to feel bad if everybody looks like they hate everything, it’s just that the life here is kind of gray. Second tip is that they need to visit museums because there are so much of them and have so much history. And third tip, they need to visit Parque Bicentenario because is precious and is a perfect place to go on the weekend.

A site

I spend a lot of time on internet every day, in fact I watch youtube videos and use facebook to see memes almost all day. One of the things that I love about the Internet is that I can search anything and find something about it.

I love reading so I always search on internet something to read. I really like discover amateur writers because usually they have a lot of creative ideas and they write interesting stories. Years ago I was searching stories to read and I found this website www.archiveofourown.org, and it compiles stories about everything and any gender, so I use it to read a lot of stories about subjects that I like. Lately I didn’t visit this website too much because I didn’t have time to, but I remember that a few years back I spent so much time reading stories on it.

A few days ago, I was telling a story that I read on the website to a friend, and is great because I remember the story because it was so good and now I can relate it to others. I mean, this story leave a mark on me and now I can leave a mark on other people. Is amazing.

My career

When I finished school I took a year off to think what I wanted to do, so I worked and went to a pre-university course. At first I studied informatic engineering in the Universidad de Santiago de Chile, but I abandon the career because it wasn’t what I was looking for my future. To be honest, I felt pressured to study a traditional career, but when I decided to study design I felt in peace because I found something that I really like to do the rest of my life.

I think designers are an underestimate but a great contribution to society. The design is an open door to see a different perspective of the reality and designers work to bring this new perspective to everybody. The art of communicate through the images is impressive and very difficult.

The principal tool that designers need to have in the future is creativity and patience. I’m not sure if this is considered tools but is really necessary when you work and you show to others the result of your work.

My favourite subject in this area is photography. I really want to learn more about this because I want to have a camera on the future, and take photos of the things I want to remember. 

A place

My big brother lives in Coquimbo since 10 years ago, so I visit him on summer vacations. In February 2012, we visited Mamalluca observatory placed in Vicuña, Coquimbo. It was the most exciting experience I have ever had.

The tour guides showed us the star positions and constellations, and we used a telescope to saw the moon, the planets Mars and Saturn. The sky was so clean and the stars so shiny, that I still remember that beautiful view. We didn’t even need the telescope to saw the Milky Way above of us. I felt so little beneath the vastness of the star-filled sky. It was so cold there because of the altitude, but I felt so warm because of the experience.

I like this place because it remembers me that out there exists so much wonderful things that I didn’t even know existed. It’s just amazing.

I really want to go again, and I must admit that is my favorite place in the whole world (for now).

Introduction

Hello everyone, my name is María José Álvarez but my friends call me Cote. I'm 22 years old and this is my third year studying design at FAU. I spend a lot of time sleeping, watching anime and playing videogames. I like drawing and playing ukulele and piano.

I love animals but I don't have any because my mom doesn't let me have one. My friends says that I'm a good talker but I don't think so. If I were an animal I would be a woodlouse.
